Saints Open Recap

A Special Guest Blog Post by Mrs. Coppola, and Sue Goncalves

Thanks to the support and generosity of our distinguished alumni, Nick DeFelice and Al Altieri, our second annual Saints Open was a huge success at the premier Race Brook Country Club.  It was heartwarming to see so many graduates, parents and "friends" of St. Mary-St. Michael School come out on a crisp autumn day to celebrate our heritage and our future.  A special  thanks to Art Gerckens for orchestrating all of the details to make this day so successful for our school.  Thanks, too, to Elise Garofalo for bringing 8 golfers to the event and for getting NY Jets tickets and NY York Giants tickets donated for the silent auction. -- Mrs. Coppola

Generosity of Spirit

October 1, 2012 was our 2nd Annual Saints Open Golf Tournament to benefit St. Mary-St. Michael School. It was my honor to participate and work  side by side some of the most generous and hard working people in order to support the Valley’s oldest private Catholic School for over 125 years.

Every single person I interacted with and/or observed displayed a genuine and caring approach to what they were doing. Whether it was out for the day having fun and golfing out on the gorgeous Race Brook golf course to volunteering their time to make sure everything went off without a hitch, to the Race Brook Country Club staff scurrying around to make the day a success, everyone I observed interacted with each other with kindness, caring, laughter, sense of community and a generosity of spirit.

I was honored to observe a community of people supporting a worthy cause – that being the support of St. Mary- St. Michael School which fosters “Catholic Education for a lifetime” as Nick DeFelice , Al Altieri, Art Gerckens and Linda Coppola  so eloquently reminisced and spoke about throughout the day and evening. Please come out and join us next year for our 3rd Annual Saints Open Golf Tournament.  --Sue Goncalves
